The International Commission for the History of Travel and Tourism (ICHTT) is an affiliated commission of the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS). It was founded on the occasion of the international conference "Tourisms: Identities, Environments, Conflicts and Histories" (University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK, 21-23 June 2001).
The seat of the Commission is at the Università della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano.
The Commission organizes dedicated sessions at the world conferences of the ICHS (every fifth year, the next one will be in Amsterdam 2010, as well as regular conferences.
The Commission represents all scholars interested in the history of travel and tourism, promotes research in these rich and rapidly-expanding fields of interest, and is working on creating an effective network and profitable exchange of information, ideas and research projects between historians of different countries.
Joining the Commission, you will be allowed to enter the members' area of this web-site, where you can:
- consult our quickly increasing database of information about scholars, books, etc.;
- keep yourself up to date about all coming conferences, new publications, research projects, discuss your ideas and projects (H-Travel).
Until December 2008 membership is free.In 2009 a fee will be requested, including the subscription to the new “Journal of Tourism History” on very favorable terms.
