The International Commission for the History of Travel and Tourism (ICHTT) is an affiliated commission of the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS). It was founded on the occasion of the international conference "Tourisms: Identities, Environments, Conflicts and Histories" (University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK, 21-23 June 2001). The Commission organizes dedicated sessions at the world conferences of the ICHS (every fifth year, the next one will be in Amsterdam 2010, as well as regular conferences. The Commission represents all scholars interested in the history of travel and tourism, promotes research in these rich and rapidly-expanding fields of interest, and is working on creating an effective network and profitable exchange of information, ideas and research projects between historians of different countries.
